WASHHINGTON - A former auditor at the D.C. tax office has pleaded guilty to accepting a $6,000 bribe to lower a business' taxes.
Thirty-six-year-old El-Hadj Drame faces up to 18 months in prison under federal guidelines when he is sentenced in February. He resigned from the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue as part of Wednesday's plea.
Drame admitted that he collected the cash even as FBI (
web) agents were investigating an unrelated scam involving the theft of $48 million from the city's tax office.
Authorities say Drame took the bribe after approaching the owner of an unidentified business that he was auditing last November.
