WASHINGTON - Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department (web|news) 's Homicide and Sexual Offenses Branch are currently investigating a homicide that was committed on November 16, 2008, in the 500 block of Foxhall Place, SE.

On Sunday, November 16, 2008, at approximately 9:30 a.m., members of the Seventh District and D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department personnel responded to the rear to the 500 block of Foxhall Place, SE to investigate the report of an unconscious person.

Upon arrival, they located a male suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel could find no life signs. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Jose Wilfredo Escobar, of the unit block of L Street, NW, was later pronounced dead on the scene by a representative from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia. The remains were then transported to the D.C. Medical Examiner's Office.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at 202-727-9099 or 1-888-919-CRIM[E]. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.

Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to D.C. Crime Solvers at 1-800-673-2777 and to the department's TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. If the information provided by the caller to the Crime Solvers Unit leads to an arrest and indictment, that caller will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
