(Sports Network) - Brandon Dubinsky netted the game-winner in the second period and Nikolai Zherdev added three assists as the New York Rangers topped Phoenix, 4-1, at Madison Square Garden. Scott Gomez returned after a five-game absence from an ankle injury to score a goal for the Rangers, who snapped a two-game slide and have won four of six overall. Blair Betts and Dan Girardi also tallied while Henrik Lundqvist stopped 35 shots to post his 13th win. Enver Lisin scored the lone goal for the Coyotes, who have lost six in a row. Ilya Bryzgalov took the loss despite making 32 saves.

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Mike Knuble scored two goals, including the game-winner with 5:08 remaining in the third period, and the Philadelphia Flyers edged the Dallas Stars, 4-3, at the Wachovia Center. Jeff Carter and Scottie Upshall also scored for the Flyers, who pushed their winning streak to a season-high five games. Simon Gagne collected two assists to extend his point streak to eight games (three goals and 10 assists), while Martin Biron made 22 saves. Mike Modano had two goals for Dallas, which has dropped three straight and six of its last seven games. Marty Turco stopped 21-of-25 shots for the Stars, who entered Monday having allowed 70 goals, the most in the Western Conference.

Final Score: NY Islanders 4, Montreal 3 (SO)

Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Richard Park scored the deciding goal in the shootout, and the New York Islanders used a crucial mistake to defeat the Montreal Canadiens, 4-3, at the Bell Centre. Following a scoreless first round in the extra segment, Park beat Carey Price past his glove and above his shoulder, and after Montreal's Alex Tanguay faltered, Bill Guerin put it away by also beating Price to the glove side. Park also scored in regulation for the Islanders, who have won five of their last six games. Doug Weight tallied two assists, while Joey MacDonald stopped 23-of-26 shots in the win for New York. Steve Begin, Josh Gorges and Maxim Lapierre scored for the Canadiens, who have lost three of four. Price allowed three goals on 24 shots in the loss.

Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Ville Peltonen scored twice to lead the Florida Panthers to a 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes at the BankAtlantic Center. David Booth also scored for the Panthers, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Tomas Vokoun made 27 saves, including seven in the third period to preserve the victory. Tuomo Ruutu and Chad LaRose lit the lamp for Carolina, which had its season-high three-game winning streak snapped Sunday with a 5-2 loss to Nashville. Sergei Samsonov registered two assists and Michael Leighton allowed three goals on 22 shots in defeat.

St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Cal Clutterbuck scored his first two NHL goals, as Minnesota escaped with a 4-3 win over Washington at the Xcel Energy Center. Marek Zidlicky and James Sheppard also scored for the Wild, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Niklas Backstrom made 25 stops for the victory. Matt Bradley, Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom scored late third-period goals for the Capitals (web|news), who nearly recovered from a 4-0 deficit but have dropped three in a row and four of five. Jose Theodore allowed four goals on 33 shots but was strong down the stretch as his club mounted a comeback.

Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Sami Salo's overtime tally lifted the Vancouver Canucks to a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings hours after learning that starting goaltender Roberto Luongo would be sidelined indefinitely with a strained groin. Luongo, who strained his groin in the first period of the team's victory over Pittsburgh last Saturday, was termed week-to-week. Daniel Sedin and Taylor Pyatt scored in regulation for the Canucks, who have won four straight. Salo also recorded an assist on Pyatt's tally late in the third to tie the game, while Curtis Sanford, who is replacing Luongo in net, saved 32-of-34 shots in the win. Mikael Samuelsson and Pavel Datsyuk tallied for the Red Wings, who had a five-game winning streak snapped. Chris Osgood allowed three goals on 24 shots to take the loss.

Final Score: Anaheim 4, Colorado 1

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Teemu Selanne scored two power play goals to guide Anaheim to a 4-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche. Chris Kunitz and Chris Pronger also scored, while Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 29 saves for the Ducks, winners of back-to-back contests. Ian Lapierreire had the lone goal for the Avalanche, who have dropped three of their last four contests. Peter Budaj stopped 16 of 19 shots before being lifted for the final period. Andrew Raycroft gave up a goal on five shots in the third.
