(Sports Network) - Blake Wheeler and David Krejci scored 10 seconds apart to jump-start Boston's five-goal third period, as the Bruins captured their eighth straight home win with a 7-2 triumph over the New York Islanders. Michael Ryder finished with a pair of goals for Boston, while Phil Kessel and Dennis Wideman each chipped in a goal and an assist in the victory. The Bruins bounced back from Wednesday's 3-2 loss at Buffalo to win for the fifth time in their last six games and improve to 10-1-1 for the month of November. Chuck Kobasew added a goal and Manny Fernandez made 22 saves to win his fifth straight start for Boston, which is 8-1-1 at home this season. Marc Savard and Matt Hunwick each notched a pair of assists for the Bruins. Nate Thompson and Richard Park scored for the Islanders, who were coming off a 5-3 loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday. New York blew a 3-0 lead and was outscored 4-0 in the third period by the Penguins. The Islanders, following Friday's debacle, now have a third-period goal differential of minus-18 this season. Joey MacDonald made his 13th straight start in net for New York, but was pulled after yielding four goals on 31 shots. Peter Mannino fared no better, allowing three goals on just eight shots.

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Sergei Samsonov scored the game-winner with 1:07 left in overtime to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in the finale of a home-and-home series at the Wachovia Center. Patrick Dwyer scored his first NHL goal and Tuomo Ruutu also tallied in regulation for the Hurricanes, who rebounded from a 3-1 setback to Philadelphia on Wednesday at the RBC Center in Raleigh. Carolina snapped a three-game losing skid with the win. Cam Ward was sharp between the pipes, stopping 24 of 26 shots for the `Canes. Jeff Carter and Joffrey Lupul each had a goal and an assist for the Flyers, who had their six-game winning streak halted. Martin Biron made 27 saves in defeat.

St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Mikko Koivu scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and the Minnesota Wild came back to edge the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-2, at the Xcel Energy Center. Koivu, though, was sent to the locker room late in the game after receiving a two-minute minor for unsportsmanlike conduct and a 10-minute misconduct for arguing with officials with 5:05 left in regulation. James Sheppard had a goal and an assist, while Owen Nolan and Eric Belanger also tallied for the Wild, who have won two of their last three and five of eight. Antti Miettinen and Marc-Andre Bergeron each had a pair of assists for Minnesota. Niklas Backstrom had a solid game in goal for Minnesota, stopping 35-of-37 shots. Radim Vrbata and Ryan Malone accounted for the Tampa Bay goals. The Lightning have dropped three in a row and 10 of their last 12. Interim coach Rick Tocchet has just one victory in six games since replacing the fired Barry Melrose behind the Tampa bench. Mike Smith made 29 saves for the Lightning.

Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Mikael Tellqvist made 37 saves to help lead the Phoenix Coyotes to a 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche. Derek Morris and Kevin Porter each scored a goal for the Coyotes, who have won their last two games on the heels of a six-game losing streak. Ryan Smyth scored the lone goal while Peter Budaj gave up two goals on 20 shots for the Avalanche, who have dropped four of their last six games.

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Ryan Getzlaf scored the lone goal of the contest and Jonas Hiller recorded his second career shutout as the Anaheim Ducks edged the Chicago Blackhawks, 1-0, at the Honda Center. Hiller, filling in for Ducks starting netminder Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who returned to his hometown of Montreal for family reasons, turned aside 26 shots. Corey Perry and Bobby Ryan picked up assists on Getzlaf's ninth goal of the season. Anaheim has won three straight after dropping five of its previous six contests. Cristobal Huet turned in a solid performance between the pipes for Chicago, stopping 20-of-21 shots in the club's second straight loss.

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Tomas Fleischmann scored the deciding goal in the opening period and Jose Theodore earned his 27th career shutout as the Washington Capitals (

news) defeated the Montreal Canadiens, 3-0, at the Verizon Center. Theodore, who played for the Canadiens from 1995-2006, stopped all 28 shots, while Alexander Ovechkin and David Steckel also tallied for Washington, which has won two straight after dropping its previous three games. Ovechkin, who recorded his sixth career hat trick and added an assist in leading Washington to a 5-3 decision over the visiting Atlanta Thrashers on Wednesday night, extended his point streak to 10 games. He has 11 goals and 11 assists over that span. Jaroslav Halak was solid in the net for Montreal, turning aside 27-of-30 shots. The Habs have lost six of their last nine games.

Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Paul Gaustad scored twice, including the game- winner with 3:24 remaining in the third period, as the Buffalo Sabres rallied to overtake the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-3, at HSBC Arena. Drew Stafford registered two goals and an assist for the Sabres, who have won two in a row on the heels of a five-game losing streak. Ryan Miller stopped 27 shots for Buffalo, which had lost five straight to Pittsburgh. The irrepressible Sidney Crosby had two goals for the Penguins, who have dropped two of their last three games. Evgeni Malkin collected two assists and leads the NHL with 27. Undrafted out of Boston University, John Curry allowed four goals on 32 shots in his first career start. He earned the win Wednesday against the Islanders in his NHL debut, stopping all 11 shots he faced after taking over for Dany Sabourin, who was yanked midway through the second period after allowing three goals on 14 shots.

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Ryan Suter scored 1:44 into overtime, lifting the Nashville Predators to a 4-3 win over the Atlanta Thrashers at Philips Arena. In the extra frame, Shea Weber sent a lead pass to the left circle to Suter, who snuck a wrister between the pads of Johan Hedberg for the win. Dan Hamhuis and Scott Nichol each had a goal and an assist while Jason Arnott also lit the lamp for the Predators, who have won two of their last three. Pekka Rinne made 22 saves and also had an assist in the win. Nathan Oystrick had a goal and an assist while Ilya Kovalchuk and Todd White also scored for the Thrashers, who have dropped five of their last six. Hedberg made 22 saves in the loss.

Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Henrik Lundqvist recorded 38 saves, including two in the shootout, and Nikolai Zherdev had the game-winner in the New York Rangers' 4-3 win over the Florida Panthers in the first portion of a home-and- home series. Zherdev, Aaron Voros and Dan Fritsche each scored in regulation for the Rangers, who have won three straight and six of eight. It was the second straight game in which Zherdev found shootout success, as he scored the game-clincher in New York's 3-2 win over Tampa Bay on Wednesday. Craig Anderson was solid while stopping 43-of-46 shots for the Panthers, who have lost four of five. Jay Bouwmeester, David Booth and Radek Dvorak each lit the lamp in the loss.

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Marian Hossa's second goal of the game came with two minutes left to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at Joe Louis Arena. With time winding down in the third period, Detroit took a 4-3 lead. A left circle faceoff draw was won by Pavel Datsyuk. The puck went to the right side where Hossa poked it forward, then kicked the puck from his skate to his stick and swept a shot from the low left side past Pascal Leclaire with two minutes left. From there the Red Wings held off the Blue Jackets and Kris Draper's empty-netter sealed the victory. Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and an assist while Jiri Hudler also lit the lamp for the Red Wings, who snapped a two-game slide. Chris Osgood made 13 stops and gave up a goal on a slap shot from mid-ice. However, he made enough saves to record the 372nd win of his career and tie Andy Moog for 13th all-time. Fedor Tyutin scored twice while Jakub Voracek added the other marker for the Blue Jackets, who have dropped four of their last five games. Leclaire made 30 saves in the defeat.

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Dan Boyle scored twice and Ryane Clowe recorded three assists, as the red-hot San Jose Sharks stomped the Dallas Stars, 6-2, in a Pacific Division clash at the American Airlines Center. Joe Pavelski had a goal and an assist for the Sharks, who have won six games in a row and lead the NHL with 39 points. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 25 shots, while Devin Setoguchi and Joe Thornton both registered two assists. Patrick Marleau added a helper and, like Setoguchi and Thornton, is riding a seven-game point streak. Setoguchi has five goals and eight assists; Thornton has posted four goals and nine assists; and Marleau has four goals and six assists over his run. Loui Eriksson and James Neal lit the lamp for Dallas, which has yet to win consecutive games this season. Marty Turco gave up five goals on 19 shots before he was yanked at the beginning of the third period. Tobias Stephan made 10 saves the rest of the way.
