WASHINGTON - Pop singer Rihanna is finding a new voice after months of media attention because her boyfriend attacked her. Now, she's breaking her silence about domestic violence and in the process hoping to speak on behalf of other victims similar situations.

When she's not posing on the red carpet and talking about her music or performances, Rihanna is setting new fashion trends. But it's talking about her experience with domestic violence that's earned her the title of "Woman of the Year" from Glamour Magazine. She's finally breaking her silence in both the magazine and to ABC's Diane Sawyer about what happened between her and her boyfriend, pop singer Chris Brown last February.

Brown has apologized and pleaded guilty to felony assault. He's serving a sentence of probation and community labor.

In her interview for Glamour's December issue, Rihanna talks about the pictures of her bruised face that were leaked after the attack and the media scrutiny.

She said, "I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears. That was the level of media chaos that happened the next day."

Glamour says it chose the 21-year-old for this award because of the message she's sending to young women by speaking out.

She told the magazine "I want to give as much insight as I can to young women because I feel like I represent a voice that isn't really heard. Now I can help speak for those women."

Rihanna's interview with ABC coincides with the release of her newest music video, "Russian Roulette" and album. She says she's put everything she's been wanting to say for the last eight months into her music.

You can see Diane Sawyer's interview with Rihanna starting Thursday on "Good Morning America."
