BRYANS ROAD, Md. - Investigators have charged a Crofton man with arson and insurance fraud after he allegedly torched his own car last year.

Mark E. Gregory, 31, drove his 2002 Volkswagen to the Marshall Hall Boat Ramp in Bryans Road on November 11, 2008, at 4:12 a.m. and set it on fire, investigators said.

The fire caused $8,000.00 in damage. Gregory reported the vehicle stolen the same day and filed an insurance claim, investigators said.

State fire marshals charged Gregory with second-degree arson, insurance fraud and making a false statement to police.

He's due in court on December 28.
