(Sports Network) - David Perron recorded his first career hat tSt. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - David Perron recorded his first career hat trick to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 6-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks at Scottrade Center.

Brad Boyes notched a goal and three assists while Andy McDonald and Erik Johnson also scored for the Blues, who halted a five-game winless skid (0-2-3) in the opener of a six-game homestand that will continue on Thursday against Nashville.

Chris Mason made 22 saves in the victory.

"We've been playing some pretty good hockey, and tonight we found ways to score goals," said Blues head coach Andy Murray.

Henrik Sedin tallied the only goal for Vancouver, which has lost two straight on the heels of a three-game win streak.

Roberto Luongo, who had been out of action since October 28 because of a hairline rib fracture, returned to the ice and ended with 15 saves, but it was not in a starting role. Andrew Raycroft was again between the pipes, but lasted only one period after he allowed four goals on 13 shots before being pulled.

St. Louis exploded with four goals in the first period.

Before a good portion of the fans made it to their seats, the Blues jumped out to a 1-0 lead. McDonald's sixth goal of the season, scored only 18 seconds after the opening faceoff, was assisted by Boyes.

At the 5:42 mark of the first, Perron's career night got on track when, from the top of the crease, he tipped home Boyes' shot from the left side.

The offensive onslaught continued only 71 seconds later, courtesy of a solid individual effort by Johnson and a bit of bad luck on the part of the visitors. Johnson held control at the right point, maneuvered around and through several defenders, moved into the right circle and fired a shot that deflected off the skate of Vancouver's Ryan Johnson and into the net.

Less than a minute later, Perron's second goal of the game made it a four-goal advantage. McDonald corralled the puck along the right rear boards and sent a quick pass to Perron, whose laser wrist shot from the near circle lit the lamp with 13:24 remaining in the stanza.

"They took it to us very hard in the first period," said Canucks coach Alain Vigneault. "They had some quality chances and they buried them -- we didn't have any push-back."

Boyes' power-play marker late in the second period made it 5-0.

The lone goal for Vancouver was scored 1:02 into the final stanza via Sedin's backhander near the right post before the Perron hat trick was completed on a power-play deflection goal from in close with 4:07 to go in regulation.

Game Notes

The contest had a total of 112 penalty minutes, four fights and several game misconducts...The Canucks were 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Blues were 1-for-7 with the extra skater.
