(Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks have added Matt Williams as their first base coach and Bo Porter as their third base coach for the 2010 season, while retaining bullpen and catching coach Glenn Sherlock.
"We are really proud to add Matt Williams and Bo Porter to our staff in addition to retaining Glenn Sherlock," manager A.J. Hinch said. "Our coaching staff will have a unique blend of coaching styles, competitiveness, and personality that will help our players in every aspect of the game, mentally and physically. As a staff, we are excited and ready to start preparing together for a successful 2010."
Williams, who will be making his big league coaching debut, retired in 2003 after a 17-year major league career. He spent his last six seasons with Arizona, winning a World Series title with the club in 2001, and was the Diamondbacks' original third baseman.
A five-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove Award winner, Williams ended his career with a .268 batting average, 378 home runs and 1,218 RBI in 1,866 games with Arizona, San Francisco and Cleveland.
Williams will also handle infield coaching duties, while Porter, who had been the Florida Marlins' third base coach the last three seasons, will oversee the outfielders.
Hinch's staff already included bench coach Kirk Gibson, hitting coach Jack Howell, and pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre, Jr.
