(Sports Network) - The Memphis Grizzlies signed free agent point guard Jamaal Tinsley to an undisclosed contract on Saturday.
Tinsley was waived by the Indiana Pacers in the offseason. The 31-year-old had two years and $14.7 million left on his contract but didn't play in 2008-09, mostly due to off-court legal problems and a plan to have him in a reduced role.
The Grizzlies originally selected the Iowa State product with the 27th overall pick in the 2001 draft. He never played with the club, however, spending his entire seven-year career in Indiana.
Tinsley has averaged 10.4 points and 7.0 assists while playing over 30 minutes per game in his career.
"We are pleased to add a veteran playmaker with Jamaal's credentials to the team," Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace said. "He will add experience and high-level passing ability."
