WASHINGTON - Family members of 83-year-old Colonel Norbert Schmidt are making one final plea for his stolen urn to be returned to them before they head back to their home.

The family came to the D.C. area to bury Schmidt at Arlington National Cemetery, but someone stole the urn containing his ashes.

“I feel like once we leave that all work to finding my dad's remains will stop. I want my dad to be with my mom,” said daughter Carol Schmidt.

It was inside a blue-green carry-on bag when it was stolen Wednesday night out of the family's rented van.

They ask whoever has the urn to return it to a public place, like Arlington National Cemetery or a church, so the decorated Korean War veteran can be properly laid to rest.
