(Sports Network) - Kansas remained the top team in the latest Associated Press men's college basketball poll after the first week of play.
The Jayhawks, who cruised to a 101-65 win over Hofstra in their lone game thus far, received 58 first-place votes -- three more than the preseason poll -- and a total of 1,616 points from a nationwide media panel.
Little changed from the preseason poll, as the only newcomer is Maryland. The Terrapins moved into the 25th spot and replaced Mississippi State. The Bulldogs were 18th in the preseason poll, but lost their opener to Rider.
Michigan State picked up five first-place votes to keep the second spot in the new rankings, while Texas and Kentucky each garnered one top tally to remain third and fourth, respectively.
Villanova, North Carolina, Purdue, West Virginia, Duke and Tennessee again completed the top 10.
The second 10 consists of Butler, Connecticut, California, Washington, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Dayton, Georgetown and Louisville. Michigan and Ohio State tied for 15th, while Dayton moved up three spots from 21st.
Georgia Tech, Clemson, Illinois, Minnesota and Maryland are the last five teams ranked this week.
The Big Ten still has six teams represented, while Maryland's inclusion gives the ACC five to tie the Big East.
Later this week, a few games in tournament play will feature matchups of ranked teams.
At the Puerto Rico Tip-off, Dayton and Georgia Tech will meet in a first-round game with one of those teams facing Villanova in the second round. The Coaches vs. Cancer event in New York will have North Carolina taking on Ohio State, with a matchup against California for one of those squads in either the title game or consolation contest.
