(Sports Network) - St. Louis Rams wide receiver Keenan Burton will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury that will require surgery.

The second-year wide receiver apparently injured his knee during a non- contact play in Sunday's 28-23 loss to the Saints.

Burton had 25 catches for 253 yards in nine games for St. Louis this year. The six-foot, 206-pound Kentucky product hauled in 13 passes for 172 yards and a score in 13 games during his rookie campaign in 2008.

"It is a patella. They said knee but it's the patella...I just know he's having surgery. I kind of felt bad for Keenan," Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo said during his Monday press conference.

Rookie WR Brandon Gibson will likely fill the void in the starting lineup. Gibson, who came to St. Louis a few weeks ago from Philadelphia via trade, had seven catches for 93 yards in Sunday's setback.

Danny Amendola -- also a former Eagle -- will probably see an increase in playing time with Burton's injury. Amendola is the club's punt and kick returner.

"It was nice to see some of the other guys step up. That's what you've always got to do in this league. We've always talked about that. I know Keenan will be rooting for those guys as hard as anybody. We'll miss him. We'll miss his leadership. He'll bounce back he's a resilient guy. He knows what he's faced with and he'll get better," said Spagnuolo on how the injury will affect the team.
