(Sports Network) - The Golden State Warriors have traded disgruntled swingman Stephen Jackson to the Charlotte Bobcats.
In exchange, the Bobcats sent guard Raja Bell and forward Vladimir Radmanovic to the Warriors, while guard Acie Law heads to Charlotte as part of the deal.
Jackson, who had signed a three-year contract extension with Golden State last November, requested a trade during the summer. In October, the Warriors suspended him for two preseason games for conduct detrimental to the team, and the player's agent questioned Warriors head coach Don Nelson's credentials earlier this month in an attempt to get his client traded.
Those efforts proved effective, as the 31-year-old brought a 15.5 point-per- game career average to Larry Brown's young Bobcats club. Jackson had recorded 16.6 points, 4.7 assists and 3.9 rebounds in nine games for the Warriors this season. He actually started Monday's 97-91 Bobcats loss in Orlando and had 13 points with nine rebounds, going 4-of-14 from the floor.
"We are excited to add a player of Stephen's caliber to our franchise," Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins said. "He is coming off arguably the best season of his career and we believe he will help our team on both ends of the floor with his scoring and defensive abilities. He also brings experience going deep into the playoffs, including winning an NBA championship with San Antonio."
This is the sixth stop in Jackson's career, which is most noted for his participation in the melee in Detroit that garnered a 30-game suspension while he was with Indiana in November 2004.
Bell, a career 41.0 percent shooter from three-point range, may fit in well with Golden State's offensive style. The veteran, in his 10th season, was averaging 12.0 points and 4.2 rebounds in five game with Charlotte this year.
Radmanovic, 28, has put up 4.9 points and 3.6 rebounds this season with the Bobcats. He is in his ninth year in the league, with career averages of 9.1 points and 4.1 rebounds in 556 games.
Law, who was acquired by Golden State in an offseason three-player deal that sent Jamal Crawford to Atlanta, has averaged 6.2 points for the Warriors this season.
