QUANTICO, Va. - Billions of taxpayer dollars are being spent to try and stimulate the economy but according to the government, some of that money is going to places that don't exist.

We teamed up with ABC News' Jonathan Karl and Avery Miller who have been tracking taxpayer stimulus dollars and finding lots of mistakes when it comes to tracking your money.

A spokeswoman for Recovery.gov told us that by law it's the recipients who are in charge of keeping the records. So she says there are lots of typos but that the government is doing its best at transparency, saying this is something that's never been tried before.

The men working for Kevin Knight's Leesburg contracting company were hard at work Wednesday cleaning up Quantico National Cemetary.

"We created 10 to 12 jobs and we saved another six to seven jobs as a result of these two contracts," said Knight.

The men are proof that work is getting done thanks to government stimulus dollars but just how closely are the billions of dollars being monitored?

The U.S. Government's website -- Recovery.gov -- claims to provide easy access for taxpayers to track where their stimulus dollars are being spent and how many real jobs are being created. But ABC News has found the government's records are full of mistakes in countless instances saying money is being spent in congressional districts that don't even exist.

Just take a look at Virginia, with congressional districts one through 11: the government website claims taxpayer money has been spent and jobs created in districts with numbers like zero-zero. In all, we found the government claiming money has been spent in 12 non-existent Virginia congressional districts.

After a 10 minute tutorial we were able to track money attributed to erroneous districts like Congressional District 36 where Knight mistakenly reported his work is taking place.

"As a business owner as a president as someone who has received these funds, I can assure you that there are strict criterias that are put out there to make sure that we are spending these dollars where we live, in the state where we live and where the contract is being performed," said Knight.

Knight also told us he was contacted about any mistakes the government caught in his paperwork.

Recovery.gov officials told us they are carefully tracking for waste fraud and abuse and that they expected lots of typos and mistakes. They also told us they can't verify the number of jobs the Obama Administration claim have been created, saying that's not under their mandate.
