TWINBROOK, Md. - Rockville City police say officers shot and killed a man's dog at his request after it attacked the owner Saturday night.
Officers responding to the 5800 block of Ridgeway Avenue in the Twinbrook area found the dog owner suffering from "bite wounds and cuts to his arms, and puncture wounds to his chest and thigh," according to a statement released by the City.
The owner, a 38-year-old man, locked the 120-pound Rottweiler/pit bull mix in a bedroom and police removed his three children from the home while he went to the hospital.
The owner was admitted to Suburban Hospital and underwent surgery.
Police tried to contain the dog, which had broken out of the locked bedroom. Unable to locate sedatives and tranquilizers, police consulted with the owner, who requested that police capture and euthanize the dog, the statement said.
After several failed attempts to capture the dog -- which was still acting aggressively, police said -- using a capture pole and a Taser, police shot and killed the animal about 1 a.m., authorities said.
