Local Airport Delays Below National Average

A new report is out about the airline industry, including information on delays to and from Reagan and Dulles Airports. The good information is delays are below average at the two local airports, but compared year to year, the number are getting worse. Randy Donnelly is a prime example of someone caught up in delays. "I was supposed to arrive Sunday at noon. Just getting here... Already missed two meeting. Not a happy camper."
During October 2006, 476 official complaints were filed and just one year later, 914 complaints were filed. To compensate for higher gas prices, the airline make sure their flights are nearly full.
"It's more people. I don't know where they're coming from, but they're coming," said one traveler.
Another said, "you're sitting, absolutely just packed to the brim."
In 1990, planes were typically 62% full, in 2000, 72% and so far in 2007, almost 82% full.
Those numbers translates to more people being bumped; 10,000 involuntarily in 2006.
Reagan National rates fairly well in some of those categories, but t does have the most delayed flight in the county. The 8 p.m. Flight from JFK is late 92% of the time and usually by more than an hour.
