The Orioles Thursday selected four minor league players in the Rule 5 Draft, including 23-year-old right-hander Randor Bierd from the Detroit Tigers organization. Beard was 4-3 with one save and a 2.93 ERA in 42 games last season in Class A and AA.
The 6-4 native of the Dominican Republic was the third overall pick in the draft and his selection gives the Orioles 38 players on their major league roster.
In the minor league phases of the draft, the Orioles chose left-hander Ryan Rodriguez from the White Sox's AA roster and first baseman Tim Brown from San Diego's AA club. Both will be assigned to AAA Norfolk.
The Orioles also drafted right-hander J.P. Martinez from Minnesota's Class A roster and assigned him to AA Bowie.
The Orioles did not lose a player during any phase of the draft.
