Manassas Mayor Won't Seek Re-election
posted 9:29 am Wed December 12, 2007 - Manassas, Va.
The mayor of Manassas is calling it quits in June.
Mayor Douglas Waldron was elected in 2004 after serving on the city's school board. He announced his retirement plans Monday night during a City Council meeting. The 51-year-old said he wanted to announce his decision early because he hopes the nomination and election process for his successor would be "robust."
The city's Republicans will choose candidates for mayor and City Council at a convention on January 26.
Vice Mayor Harry "Hal" Parrish II said he's considering running for mayor. His father was mayor from 1963 to 1981.
