D.C. investigators have discovered two bodies inside a Northwest apartment building Saturday.
Police officers and fire fighters were called to investigate an odd odor inside an apartment building on the 3,700-block of 13th Street, NW at 9:00 a.m.
According to Assistant Police Chief Diane Groomes officers conducted a door-to-door check of every apartment while the fire department checked the carbon dioxide levels. ABC 7/NewsChannel 8's Jackie Congedo reports that once crews were on scene, they discovered the bodies of two elderly women in different apartment units. One of the victims was said to have been dead for some time.

Also investigators uncovered that the building's boiler was not working after finding a leaking stove inside one of the apartments. Washington Gas Company has since responded to repair the boiler.
D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman, Alan Etter said the women did not die from carbon monoxide poisoning.
The fire department has called a hazmat crew to the building after the smell began to make people sick.
Authorities evacuated 12 residents and they have since allowed them to return to their homes.
Groomes says they don't see any connection between the deaths and the broken boiler. Police say there are no apparent signs of foul play, but an investigation continues.
The medical examiner will determine what caused the two deaths.
