Dryer Vent Sparks Apartment Fire
posted 2:50 pm Mon December 17, 2007 - Burtonsville, Md.
About 40 people have been forced from their homes after a two-alarm fire at an apartment building in Burtonsville Sunday afternoon.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said the blaze started after a dryer vent overheated sparking an electrical fire. Piringer said the high winds have been causing problems and helped spread the fire at the apartment complex. No injuries were reported in the Burtonsville fire.
He also stated that crews were kept busy due to an unusually high number of calls for emergency service for downed power lines, a few wrecks and several fires.
Firefighters are also responding to a shed fire in Silver Spring and a small fire in an apartment high-rise in Colesville.
Piringer says nearly the entire Montgomery County fire department had been activated for all the incidents, which is unusual.
