Maryland Reinstates 17-Year-Old Voters In Primary

Seventeen-year-olds who will be 18 by next year's general election will be able to vote in the February primary after all. The Maryland State Board of Elections decided to reverse course on a previous decision that would have stopped a decades-long practice.
State Attorney General Doug Gansler wrote a letter of legal advice on the matter Wednesday. Late last year, the attorney general's office had advised the board the practice had to end, because of a Court of Appeals ruling.
But Gansler says the Maryland Democrat and Republican parties have a First Amendment right to include 17-year-olds in their primaries.
Seventeen-year-old will have until January 22nd to register. The primary for presidential and congressional candidates is February 12th.
