As the last minute shopping push hits at Tysons Corner Center to purchase presents, finding a parking spot can be treacherous.

"I think it's going to be wild," said one shopper. Another said, "I think it's crazy." At malls across the country, confrontations are commonplace. In Virginia, multiple drivers face off for spot after spot, but most leave frustrated.

Amber Richter and Angie Bucarelo employ different strategies for success. Bucarelo parks in one row and landed a spot in about 10 minutes. Richter finds customers leaving and follows them, all in holiday spirit.

As for the retailers, they aren't singing "Blue Christmas" because consumer spending surged more than 1 percent in November. It was nearly triple the increase since October and the biggest gain in three and a-half years.

Meanwhile, an inflation gauge tied to spending went up six-tenths of a percent in November, the biggest increase in two years, reflecting a big surge in gasoline prices.
