Arlington Adopts Plan to Prepare for Aging Population
posted 3:50 pm Sat December 22, 2007 - Arlington, Va.
The number of Arlington residents 65 and older is expected to double in the next couple of decades, and county officials are trying to prepare. The Arlington County Board has adopted an "Elder Readiness Plan." Officials say the plan will take about 25 years to fully implement.
Officials say the goal is to make it possible for Arlington residents to age in their homes near family and friends. They say it will require expanding transportation services, establishing a volunteer force to aid the elderly, providing low-income health care options, and educating residents about the available programs.
