D.C. Police Officer Released From Hospital After Crash
posted 4:38 pm Mon December 24, 2007 - Washington
One of two D.C. police officers involved in a car crash Sunday has been released from the hospital, and the condition of the second has been upgraded.
Officials at Washington Hospital Center said 27-year-old Officer Shannon Brackett is in critical but stable condition Monday. Her partner, 25-year-old Officer Claudine Gorman, was treated and released late Sunday.
Brackett and Gorman were hurt during a serious car crash Sunday in Southeast while on their way to assist another officer when their cruiser hit a tree and then a van. The driver of the van was treated at the scene and declined to go to the hospital.
According to ABC 7/NewsChannel 8 reporter Angela Starke, Brackett and Gorman were traveling along Minnesota Avenue at Randle Circle when they crashed into a green van around 12:30 p.m.
Officers on the scene said Shannon Brackett and Gorman had to be cut from their cruiser.
D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in a statement "My thoughts and prayers are with the officers. This is just another reminder that officers put their lives on the line every day and I thank them for the sacrifices they and their families make on behalf of the department." Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
