D.C. Police Shoot, Kill Suspect in NE

D.C. Police are investigating a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred Sunday night.
Plainclothes officers from the department's Gun Recovery Unit were conducting an operation in the 500 block of Eames Place in Northeast. At about 9:00 p.m., officers noticed a male subject walk away from a vehicle; the individual was subsequently stopped by an officer, at which time it looked like the subject may be armed. The suspect then fled on foot into the 600 block of 18th Street, where he reportedly turned and pointed a weapon in the direction of the pursuing officer. The pursuing officer subsequently drew his weapon and fired, striking the subject in the head. The suspect was later pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
The victim been identified as 22-year-old Dameon Howard of SE. A 22-caliber handgun was recovered on the scene. The officer was unhurt. He is 30 years old and a 5-year veteran of the department and has been placed on routine administrative leave with pay.
