A medic supervisor who was involved in a serious accident while responding to a call was treated and released from Inova Alexandria Hospital Wednesday.

The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Braddock Road and Kenwood Avenue. Police said the 33-year-old EMS supervisor was answering a 911 seizure call when she crashed into a Honda Accord with two people inside.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? The wife of the driver said her husband was driving the Accord with a sister from their church in the passenger seat.

The 48-year-old sister from Falls Church was flown to Medstar where she remains in critical condition.  The husband was walking around after the crash, but later went to the hospital.

Jose Portillo, whose son had just opened up his new toys, came running out and a concerned crowd gathered quickly. "I had to stop just to see if everybody was okay. It's really sad that it happened on Christmas day."

Alexandria Police are trying to figure out who was at fault. It's not clear if the EMS driver had lights and sirens on as she was responding to the 911 call.

Even if she did have emergency equipment running, she should be aware of moving vehicles nearby and the possibility of the drivers not seeing the lights or hearing the siren. Just because the law requires drivers to yield the right of way, doesn't guarantee clear passage for emergency vehicles. Sometimes accidents happen through no fault of anyone involved, but everyone needs to be more careful, including emergency personnel.
