posted 4:50 pm Tue December 25, 2007 - Washington
Firefighters said a six-year-old boy playing with a lighter caused a blaze that displaced five adults and two children on Christmas Eve.
It happened at about 11:30 p.m. in southeast D.C. Fire department spokesman Alan Etter said the boy was playing with a lighter next to his bed, and the bed caught fire. Residents of several apartments were displaced by the fire.
Etter said the boy has been referred for counseling as part of the department's juvenile fire-setters program.
