The southbound lanes of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway have since reopened after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a tractor trailer early Saturday morning in Laurel. According to U.S. Park Police, 36-year-old Eric S. Anderson from Capitol Heights had exited his red Chevy Impala while on the right shoulder of the Parkway, just south of Route-197 around 2:45 a.m., when he was struck by the oncoming vehicle.

Sergeant Robert Lachance says the truck driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. He also confirmed that the tractor-trailer was a government vehicle and was authorized to use the Parkway.

How awful. I don't understand how Maryland continues to develop, but can't find a way to widen congested roads to keep people safe on the side of road when they have to pull over for whatever reason. I dread breaking down on the Beltway or 295. You're a sitting duck. I feel so badly for this young man's family.
