Police in Toledo, Ohio, say a drunken driver sped down a highway in the wrong direction for about four miles before his pickup truck slammed into a minivan carrying a Maryland family home after a holiday trip. A woman and four children in the minivan, including an 8-week-old girl, were killed in the crash that scattered toys, stuffed animals and bits of gift wrap along the edge of the road.

Both drivers tried to avoid each other, but the crash ripped a side door off the minivan, throwing out some of the victims.

I can't even fathom or see the depths of the family's grief in losing so many of them at one time to this type of tragedy. One close family member would tear me and the family apart. What is so ironic that most of the drunk drivers who causes so much damage, can walk away with little or no injuries -- their cars and trucks are totalled, yet they are not. There have been times when I have witnessed a drunk driver, that I have called 911, given their tag numbers and location. More people should do just that. If the driver who is so sorry should have thought about that before he got behind the wheel of a truck. Family and friends discourage their driving, but they don't listen. I wished an apparatus could be attached to cars of people who had been charged/arrested for DUI, that their vehicle wouldn't start if they blew in it, and it traced alcohol. Somehow, they would probably get around that by getting some sobber person to blow in it.
