-- When walking your dog, the leash should never be attached to the collar with your dogs information on it for exactly the reasons described in these incidents. I put a harness on my Wire Fox Terriers EVERY time I take them out of my yard for any reason and I also have a quick-connect collar that snaps on and off in approx 2 seconds. That quick-connect collar has all the information on it and it is never connected to the leash.

Those of you who insist on attaching your leash to a collar should have 2 collars on your dog. The cost of an extra collar is approx $10 and you will never be sorry for making that tiny additional investment in your dog.

Dogs can slip all sorts of collars but you can at least make sure their contact information stays with them. The collar with the information does not have to be tight because it is not being used to restrain the dog.

I do this in addition to having them both microchipped.

I don' t know who's at fault in this particular incident, but many times I've seen kids walking dogs that were so big or so active that they could barely control them.
