(Sports Network) - Marvin Williams scored 18 points to lead the Atlanta Hawks in a 98-95 victory over the New York Knicks.

Joe Johnson added 17 points and seven assists for the Hawks, who have won three in a row and six of eight overall. Josh Smith chipped in 16 points, eight boards and five helpers in the win, while Al Horford ended with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Al Harrington had a game-high 27 points for the Knicks, who have lost three in a row and five of six overall. Wilson Chandler and David Lee scored 15 points each, with Lee also hauling in 11 boards. Chris Duhon logged 13 points and eight assists in the loss.

The Knicks got a couple of players back from injury, as guard Nate Robinson (groin) played for the first time in four games and Jared Jeffries made his season debut after fracturing his fibula on the third day of training camp.

"He didn't even have training camp, he had nothing," Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni said of Jeffries. "I thought he did fantastic."

Neither player lasted the whole game, as Robinson's groin tightened up in the third quarter and he went to the locker room and didn't return. Jeffries hurt himself on an alley-oop attempt in the fourth frame and didn't return, though the Knicks say he is fine.

"I'm worried about it," D'Antoni said of Robinson. "We don't want to push him too much, but at the same time he'll get through it. It tightened up at halftime, it's not something he pulled."

Down by three with 55.7 ticks left, New York inbounded the ball and worked it around the arc before Harrington took an off-balance three from the left corner that wound up clanking off the back iron.

Atlanta took over and killed some clock before Williams launched a three from the left wing that bricked off the rim and Quentin Richardson grabbed the board and called timeout with 5.7 seconds left.

Richardson inbounded to Duhon and eventually Harrington got the pass on the left wing but couldn't get a shot off before the final buzzer sounded.

"I'm always happy getting a win, I guess you'd like to blow a team out," said Horford.

The Hawks edged the Knicks, 31-30, after the opening quarter despite Harrington's 15 first-quarter points.

Atlanta, despite leading by as many as 12 points in the second stanza, held a slight 57-55 at the half.

The teams traded baskets to stay neck-in-neck throughout the third quarter.

Johnson's jumper gave the home team a slight 73-71 lead late in the frame, and Zaza Pachulia's 1-of-2 showing from the foul line made it a three-point game heading into the final stanza.

The Hawks opened the fourth frame with a 10-3 run to assume an 84-74 lead. Johnson started the run with a jumper and Pachulia's free throw closed it out with about nine minutes showing on the clock.

Jeffries then made a jumper and Lee connected on a three-point play to bring the visitors within five points.

Moments later, an 11-3 Knicks run made it a one-point game, 91-90, as Richardson drained a three with about 3 1/2 minutes left in the game.

A minute later, Mike Bibby hit a three from the top of the arc to make it a four-point game.

Up by three with 1:07 left in play, the Hawks inbounded the ball and Smith missed a three-point attempt and Lee grabbed the rebound and called a timeout.
