WASHINGTON - A former FBI (web) Agent who has dated actress Linda Fiorentino admitted Monday he improperly used his FBI computer to access information unrelated to his work assignments and passed the information to his girlfriend, actress Linda Fiorentino.

Special Agent Mark T. Rossini resigned from the Bureau before pleading guilty Monday to five misdemeanor counts of unauthorized access to FBI computer systems, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said Rossini made more than 40 searches for information in the Bureau's secure case information system. Many of searches were related to the FBI's case against jailed private investigator Anthony Pellicano.

Pellicano is a former high-profile Los Angeles PI who was convicted of illegally wiretapping celebrities' phones and others to get information for clients of his detective agency. He is awaiting sentencing.

Rossini admitted to improperly downloading a confidential informant's FBI report on the Pellicano matter and giving it to a person "with whom [he] had a close personal relationship."  According to prosecutors, X -- who has been identified in media reports as Fiorentino -- also had a previous relationship with Pellicano and gave a copy of the FBI report to an attorney for Pellicano.

The FBI document surfaced in a court filing by the defense, apparently triggering the investigation.

Fiorentino is reportedly writing a screenplay about Pellicano.

Rossini had repeatedly denied to investigators that he had passed along information about the Pellicano case, as had been reported in Radar Magazine's online blog. As part of the plea agreement, Rossini acknowledged that articles detailing his relationship with actress Linda Fiorentino were true.

Rossini was a career FBI counterterrorism agent who was assigned to the FBI's New York Field Office. He had also worked at FBI Headquarters in Washington.

Rossini faces a maximum sentence of up to five years of incarceration and a $500,000 fine. According to the federal sentencing guidelines, Rossini likely faces between zero and 6 months in prison. Sentencing has been set for March 13, 2009.
