Washington's five-game winning streak ended with a 7-1 loss at Philadelphia on Saturday, and the team seemed on track for another defeat on Tuesday, when it fell behind 4-0 less than five minutes into the second period against the New York Rangers. But the Capitals stormed back, winning 5-4.
Meanwhile, the Sabres are coming off back-to-back overtime losses before Christmas. Buffalo has won its last three trips to the Verizon Center, allowing just four total goals in those games. But the Capitals were just 40-32-10 at home over the past two seasons.
