(Sports Network) - The Houston Rockets have re-signed center Dikembe Mutombo for the rest of the season.
The 42-year-old Mutombo appeared in 39 games for Houston last season, averaging 5.1 rebounds, 3.0 points and 1.2 blocks while averaging almost 16 minutes of playing time.
He became a free agent after last season and was considering retirement before deciding to come back for an 18th season.
"We're really happy to bring Dikembe back," said Rockets general manager Daryl Morey. "Everyone knows what he brings. He's probably the greatest player I've ever had the pleasure to work with in terms of what he does both as a person and for the Rockets."
Over 17 seasons in the NBA, the former first-round pick out of Georgetown has played with Denver, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York and Houston. In 1,187 games, he has averaged 9.9 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game.
