The Nationals are one game away from heading to the National League Championship Series. But, at one point, fans worried the post-season run would be over—until Jayson Werth came up to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning and gave the team the deciding win.

ABC7 WEATHER: Today, we will have morning clouds, but a sunny, breezy and cool day with highs reaching 65.  

D.C. COUNCIL RACE GETS PERSONAL: Per The Washington Post, “D.C. Council member Michael A. Brown on Thursday made an opponent’s prior arrest for possessing marijuana an issue in the campaign, accusing challenger David Grosso of trying to conceal his nearly 20-year-old criminal record.”  

MARYLAND TO BREAK GROUND ON CONSTRUCTION PROJECT: Per The Washington Post, a monumental day for Montgomery County government officials and commercial developers was heartbreaking for some. “Crown Farm, the last large undeveloped parcel in central Montgomery County, is now the construction site for 320,000 square feet of retail and commercial space, plus 2,250 residential units.”  

MARYLAND DISMISSES THOUSANDS OF DEBT COLLECTION CASES: Per WTOP, “The chief judge of the District Court of Maryland has dismissed more than 3,000 debt collections cases against Maryland residents.”  

BIDEN, RYAN FACED OFF AT ONLY VP DEBATE: At odds early and often, Joe Biden and Republican Paul Ryan squabbled over the economy, taxes, Medicare and more Thursday night in a contentious, interruption-filled debate. "That is a bunch of malarkey," the vice president retorted after a particularly tough Ryan attack on the administration's foreign policy.  

NATS ONE GAME AWAY FROM CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES: The Nationals are one game away from heading to the National League Championship Series.  

EU TAKES NOBEL PEACE PRIZE: The European Union has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to promote peace and democracy in Europe, in the midst of the union's biggest crisis since its creation in the 1950s.
