Four Southern California men, including one suspect who served in the U.S. Air Force, have been charged with plotting to kill Americans and destroy U.S. targets overseas by joining al-Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan, federal officials said Monday.  

Fairfax County police are investigating an assault that happened Monday night in Springfield.

D.C. COUNCIL CONSIDERS BILL WITH STRICTER LIQUOR LAWS: Per The Washington Post, “After more than two years of study, the D.C. Council is preparing to consider a bill that aims to bring more order to the city’s liquor laws. In the first rewrite of alcohol regulations in a decade, council member Jim Graham (D-Ward 1) is pushing an omnibus bill that redefines neighborhood standing to contest liquor licenses, opens the door to Sunday carryout liquor sales, creates a city “noise hotline” for complaints about loud establishments, authorizes “wine pubs,” and legalizes 64-ounce “growlers” that bars and grocery stores can fill with beer for consumption elsewhere.”

HOTLANES DEBUT MARRED WITH ACCIDENTS: Per The Washington Post, “The Capital Beltway’s new lanes have been open to the public for just a few days, but it’s already time for a bit of a makeover. A spate of accidents at the entrance to the northbound 495 express lanes, all stemming from last-minute maneuvers to avoid the new lanes, has transportation authorities scrambling to make changes.”  

HILLARY CLINTON TO VISIT MIDDLE EAST: Efforts to end a week-old convulsion of Israeli-Palestinian violence drew in the world's top diplomats on Tuesday, with President Barack Obama dispatching his secretary of state to the region on an emergency mission and the U.N. chief appealing from Cairo for an immediate cease-fire.  

VIRGINIA TAKES ON DRUNK DRIVING: Per The Washington Post, "People have almost become immune to the wrecked cars displayed in front of police stations across the country warning them against driving drunk, so Arlington County police are trying another head-turner: A Ford Crown Victoria that is a county police car in the front and a yellow cab in the back. The slogan on the car reads ‘Choose your ride.’”  

WIZARDS DROP TO FRANCHISE-WORST RECORD: There were boos early and at the end for the winless Washington Wizards, who dropped to a franchise-worst 0-9 with a 96-89 loss to the Indiana Pacers.

MARION BARRY MAKES RACIALLY CHARGED COMMENT DURING TURKEY GIVEAWAY: D.C. Councilman Marion Barry made a racially-charged comment surrounding his annual Thanksgiving giveaway. Barry gives away thousands of dollars worth of turkeys every Thanksgiving. When the Washington City Paper asked Barry where the money for the giveaway comes from, he refused to answer, adding only a specific group is interested in knowing the source of the funds.
