Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Loudoun, VA to Montgomery and Howard, MD to points south butting up to the warning area. (Frederick, MD, Jefferson, WV and northern Shenandoah Valley not included)

A Winter Storm Warning has been posted for Calvert, Charles and St Marys in Maryland, as well as Stafford, Spotsylvania and Orange in VA for 2 to 4 inches of snow.

Low pressure developing to the south along the Gulf Coast will move north and bring a steadier rain for by midday that will change to snow during the early afternoon. Snow will be heaviest between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. before tapering off. Up to 1 inch of wet snow is expected inside the beltway (***the last time DCA recorded 1 inch or greater was January 26, 2011 with 5 inches reported and the SEASONAL total last winter was 2 inches). As much as 4 inches will fall south from Southern Maryland to Central , VA including Charlottesville and Fredericksburg with the heaviest along the Blue Ridge to the southwest. A few flurries possible in the Central Shenandoah Valley into southern Frederick County with a sharp cut off to the north. Skies will clear Thursday night with high pressure bringing dry weather through the weekend. A cold front will sail in from the Great Lakes Sunday, bringing a wind shift and cooler temperatures for Martin Luther King’s Jr., Day on Monday as well as inauguration. A separate disturbance will follow the front Monday with a few flurries. Bundle up if you are attending inauguration.
