ABC7’S BRIAN van de GRAAFF
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect until 10am for DC, Arlington, Fairfax, Prince Georges and points south, and until Noon for Loudoun, Montgomery, Frederick and points north toward the Mason Dixon line.
Sleet and freezing rain will cause icy roads for Monday morning’s commute so allow extra time and take it slow.
A warm front is approaching however; with cold air trapped near the ground and some milder air aloft we expect a light wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain to start your day so commuters should allow extra time this morning. Icy conditions linger through the mid-morning hours before the warm front pushes northward, allowing southerly breezes to bring milder air into the region. By afternoon, temperatures will be above freezing in the upper 30s to low 40s so we will just deal with a few rain showers at that time.
With southerly breezes continuing, we will see a nice warm-up for Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will reach the low-mid 50s Tuesday, helped by some sunshine. Wednesday will be even warmer with the mercury soaring into the 60s. However, a cold front will approach the area late Wednesday, accompanied by showers and strong thunderstorms. Behind the front, our winds will become northwesterly, bringing a return to seasonably chilly weather for the listening area Thursday and Friday.
