ABC7’S BRIAN van de GRAAFF
A wet and possibly slick trek into work this morning…
A potent winter storm is heading for the Northeast, but the same system is moving through the D.C. Metro before intensifying off the east coast this evening. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for areas west of the D.C. Metro including Loudoun and Fauquier Counties in Virginia and Montgomery, Howard, Frederick County in Maryland and points to the west until 10AM.
As the storm rapidly deepens and moves Northeast of Washington, strong winds will develop across the area. Expect the morning wintry mix to turn to all light rain today. However, flurries and snow showers will also be possible later in the day as colder air wraps into this headline-making storm. We will watch this storm closely as a change of a couple degrees in the forecast air temperatures could mean a change in the type of precipitation across the region.
The weekend will feature plenty of sunshine, although with gusty winds on Saturday it will be brisk. Winds calm as the storm moves away from the Northeast. Saturday will be cooler with highs around 40°, but bump up to near 50° by Sunday. The next low pressure moves in from the west and brings a quick shot at rain Monday with dry weather on Tuesday. Have a great day!
