Today's Forecast

Clouds to start with a mix of snow and sleet possible developing midday and into the evening rush….

The epic Midwest storm is separating, sending a big chunk of energy towards the Great Lakes and a secondary chunk towards the south and east. We will be clipped by the latter before a secondary system forms off the coast, providing a better shot for some rain showers, especially east, for Saturday and then walloping New England with snow again.

This morning starts off gray with some light snow possible far south and west of the metro region, where a Wintery Weather Advisory is in effect until tomorrow morning. Harrisonburg, Luray and Culpeper are some places to see some light wintry precipitation this morning, with the bulk of it not arriving in the immediate metro region until this afternoon. Expect a mix of snow and more likely sleet into the evening before a change-over to cold rain. While the moisture is not abundant and our temperatures will be just above freezing, a few slick spots will be possible for the evening rush with some minor accumulations of sleet. Temperatures in the city will actually go up overnight. However, areas to the west remain cold longer and could see a period of light freezing rain - hence the extended advisory. By tomorrow, we have a better shot of moisture and it's just rain, especially I-95 and east, as a new system sets up and pulls up the coast. It will be milder in the mid 40s with sun back in the mix and highs near 50° for Sunday. Be safe and have a great weekend!
