Today's Forecast

WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect until late tonight for the entire region.

All the pieces are coming together as a potent winter storm bears down on the metro region. Snow is showing up across Live Super Doppler 7 this morning in most locations with a mix of sleet, rain and snow southeast of the city. We expect a changeover to all snow for the entire area today, with bands of heavy snow at times affecting both morning and evening commutes – hopefully the roads will be less traveled.
By the time the storm wraps up this evening we are now expecting 5 to 10 inches of snow across the immediate metro region, with 8 to 12 inches from the western side of Montgomery and Fairfax Counties westward to the ridgeline and up to 15 inches toward the Blue Ridge. Southern Maryland will see less snow, about 2 to 4 inches.

This will be a heavy, wet snow and with gusty winds out of the north expected. Limbs could come down and power outages are likely. Snow ends just after dark allowing crews time to clean up the road, but I suspect the snow will disrupt Thursday – even though sun will return with highs in the low to mid 40s. By the end of the weekend we could hit 60°! Be safe.
