A monstrous supercell is born in McCook, Neb., on June 19
Storm-chasing photographer Mike Hollingshead makes a living diving into dangerous situations to document the raging turmoil of a thoroughly pissed-off atmosphere. This footage of a supercell thunderstorm forming in McCook, Neb., represents some of the finest work in Hollingshead's "Extreme Instability" portfolio, which you can see more of here.
Don't go that way, Mike!
The cell appeared "like it was going to plant a tornado," the photographer says. So naturally he went in for a closer look.
