A monstrous supercell is born in McCook, Neb., on June 19

Storm-chasing photographer Mike Hollingshead makes a living diving into dangerous situations to document the raging turmoil of a thoroughly pissed-off atmosphere. This footage of a supercell thunderstorm forming in McCook, Neb., represents some of the finest work in Hollingshead's "Extreme Instability" portfolio, which you can see more of here.

Whoa there!

OK, that's about a 100 percent change in the skies. A major, major storm cloud starts to cross Highway 83. Fallen hail is visible on the pavement. Says Mike: "UPS truck here heading north into the hail core lol. Turn around, don't drown Mr UPS!"
