Record Low Amounts of Arctic Ice - Current Image
This image was taken with instruments onboard NASA's Aqua Satellite on 9 September 2011. Typically, in the Northern Hemisphere, this is the time of year when ice cover in the Arctic reaches its minimum coverage point, due in-part to the end of the summer season. This year's ice coverage has reached a record with respect to how little surface area in the Arctic is covered with ice. Can you see the "Northwest Passage"?
