PHOTOS: Where were you on 9/11?
Memories of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks are ingrained in a whole generation. Many vividly remember where they first heard about the events.
At an electronics store
When he heard that a second plane had hit the twin towers, Dennis Kregel switched all the TV sets displayed in the Reston store to news programming. Around 200 people were crowded inside. Then the first tower fell. “With that many people, you could just hear a pin drop,” Kregel said. “And then you started to hear people sobbing.” Having served in the Army for five years, he said he can relate to the instinct of first responders to run toward danger, not away from it. “There’s a special place – if you believe in heaven or whatever you believe in – there’s a special place for those folks,” he said.
