PHOTOS: Where were you on 9/11?

Memories of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks are ingrained in a whole generation. Many vividly remember where they first heard about the events.

At the airport

Jane and Jim Mitcham were traveling from Baltimore to Sacramento to visit a newborn grandchild. “We didn’t get very far,” Jane said. “Due to events in New York and Washington, we’ve been requested to land at the nearest airport,” the pilot announced before steering the plane in a steep spiral to Kansas City. “When we got in there, the airport was packed,” Jane said. “For all these people, it wasn’t terribly noisy. And then we saw TVs… we saw the World Trade Center.”
