Incredible photos of the northern lights in Michigan, Oct. 24, 2011
In the wee hours of Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, a geomagnetic storm started slamming earth's atmosphere with waves of charged particles. From the ground, it almost looked like immense fireworks were going off in the sky. The aurora borealis was so intense that residents of the Deep South even got a peek.
