Honor vets at an area war memorial
Honor those who have served the country on Veterans Day by paying a visit to one of the area's many war memorials.
African American Civil War Memorial
Located at the intersection of Vermont Avenue, 10th Street, and U Street in NW D.C., the African American Civil War Memorial was completed in 1997 and honors the service of the 209,145 African-American soldiers and sailors who fought for the Union in the Civil War. The sculpture, "The Spirit of Freedom," is a nine-foot bronze statue by Ed Hamilton of Louisville, Kentucky.
