John Hinckley, Jr.: A primer (photos)

John Hinckley, Jr., who attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan in 1981, is in court today to ask for more time away from St. Elizabeth's Hospital, where he has lived since 1982.

Presidential press secretary James Brady was shot and permanently disabled in the shooting outside the Washington Hilton in D.C. He went on to become one of the nation’s leading voices against gun violence. A Secret Service agent and a police officer were also wounded in the shooting.
