Same-sex marriage: Where is it legal?
Six states, plus the District of Columbia, have legalized same-sex marriage, whether through the government or a court decision. A few other states have laws in the works.

This week, a House panel OK'ed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage in Washington state, and the Senate is expected to vote on the companion bill within a few days. Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire publicly endorsed the proposal earlier this month.
